Kanaan Races to the Front at Long Beach Grand Prix.
New Blue Racecar Proves to be "Lucky Charm"
Mouser Electronics, Inc., regarded as a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, today congratulates Tony Kanaan on his spectacular performance at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, CA. The championship driver finished fourth after moving ahead 15 positions in the No. 11 MOUSER ELECTRONICS/GEICO-KV Racing Technology Chevrolet/Firestone IndyCar. The Mouser-sponsored car also clocked the fastest lap in the race with a time of 69.3541 seconds.
"Tony did an amazing job, moving up more positions than any other driver on the grid," says Larry Johannes, Mouser Electronics' Vice-President of Strategic Marketing. "The Mouser car was extremely fast. We're all looking forward to an exceptional IndyCar season ahead with Tony in the driver's seat."
The difficult 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach street circuit proved to be a tough challenge for several drivers. From the drop of the green flag, Kanaan was on the move in the striking two-toned blue Mouser car, advancing to second place at one point in the race. His fourth-place finish elevates him in the point standings to 11th place overall, signaling the mark of his talent and determination.
"It was a great day for the MOUSER ELECTRONICS/GEICO Team," Kanaan stated afterwards. "We have moved up in the points quite a lot, which is very important. It was a fun race. I got to drive fast and it was a fantastic result for us."
Mouser Electronics first set its sights on an IndyCar sponsorship last year as an innovative way to connect with the industry's top engineers, and as a high-tech platform to showcase its valued supplier partnerships. Joining Mouser as co-sponsors are TTI, Inc, Murata, Molex, TE Connectivity, Phoenix Contact, Littelfuse, KEMET, Ohmite, Hammond, Harwin, Digi, ebm-papst, Omron, BIVAR, Fluke, and Amphenol.
After a record-breaking 2011 debut, Mouser is eagerly racing into the Indy season alongside its IndyCar partners with Kanaan behind the wheel. The 37-year-old Brazilian brings a proven track record to IndyCar racing. In 2004, he became the first driver in major auto racing history to finish every lap of every race for an entire season on his way to driving away with the 2004 IndyCar Series title. To date, he has captured 14 victories and 14 poles in addition to his championship run in 2004. Kanaan's impressive performance at the 2012 Long Beach race comes as a promise of more victories to come.
